Feedback plays an important part of the World Direct Jobs site and is a key aspect used by employers when looking to fill vacancies. This area of the site contains important information about how to manage a good feedback profile.

How to write a good online profile…

World Direct matches your online profile to employers vacancies and they are notified direct of your availability. A number of aspects are key to the employer’s search as when placing a vacancy they receive exact and partial matches. To increase the likelihood of being an exact match to an employer vacancy;

  • be realistic about the annual salary you need, or the hourly rate that you want to charge. If you’re not sure, check local press or the job sections of industry magazines for the going rate. It may be possible to charge above market rate once you’ve built up a strong positive feedback profile, but remember, when you start out you have no credentials other than your profile. Significantly undercutting the going rate has a negative effect as employers perceive lesser quality.
  • manage your feedback profile. When you have worked for an employer through World Direct, you will receive feedback on your performance. Building good feedback is worthwhile and becomes an asset over time, as future employers will be able to review the feedback you have received. A good feedback profile takes work to achieve - negative feedback can take a long time to overcome, so it’s worthwhile managing the aspects of feedback with your employer on an ongoing basis. More detailed guidance on this is included below under ‘Managing Feedback’.
  • don’t overly restrict the time you are available as if you are not available for the period the employer specifies, you will be only a partial match.
  • be open to the distance you are willing to travel, as specifying a short distance from your home, such as 1 mile, will limit your chances of being an exact match.
  • use the ‘Why should employers use you?’ to consider aspects of the job that might show that you are what the employer is looking for. An example may be ‘good team player, get on well with other trades’ for construction jobs, or ‘specialist Sage software experience’ for accountancy jobs.
  • remember you are building an online profile that will match the vacancies required by employers - you are not building a full CV, so keep any free text short and to the point.
  • if you have multiple skills, create profiles for each set of skills you have.

How to manage your feedback profile…

Feedback is a very important part of the World Direct site. Giving and receiving honest feedback is a key part of your online profile. The aspects of your work that the employers give feedback on include;

  • overall value for money
  • quality of work
  • specialist skills and knowledge
  • punctuality and productivity
  • ‘Would I use this person again?’ (Yes, No, Maybe)

As a job seeker, your feedback profile will consist of an overall ranking score based on all the feedback you’ve had, broken down into ‘poor’, ‘ok’ and ‘good’ for the areas above.

Other additional information about you available to employers when reviewing your profile will be;

  • date you first registered with World Direct
  • number of clicks you’ve had on your profile
  • number of contacts made by employers
  • number of pieces of feedback you have given.

To increase the chances of getting positive feedback, actively manage the following aspect of your job;

  • charge the going rate or, if you believe you are worth above market rate, ensure you excel in all areas.
  • be clear what is required of you from the employer or client, and regularly ensure you are meeting their requirements. Ensure the work you do is defect-free, check your own work for errors and rectify them as part of the way you work. Employers may accept certain errors from employees, but self-employed or contract workers are expected to have high ongoing standards. Repeat business in this area IS based on your last job.
  • if you are selling yourself as a specialist, ensure your knowledge is up to date and be truthful when building your profile. A job seeker who exaggerates their skills or experience will soon be found out.
  • deliver work on time and discuss any extensions to deadlines with the employer/client before the due date. Be punctual and a good timekeeper.
  • overall, whether someone would use you again is a qualitative decision based on everything you have done; but one golden rule is communicate, communicate, communicate. Nine times out of ten, negative feedback is a result of a breakdown in communication.

REMEMBER YOUR ONLINE PROFILE IS WORTH MONEY TO YOU - MANAGE IT WELL.
